Founded in 1995 as the Odisha School of Mining Engineering, GCE Keonjhar became a full-fledged government B.Tech college by 2012. Located on a 45-acre campus at the foothills of Gandhamardhan, it is affiliated with BPUT and offers seven engineering branches including Mining, Mineral, Metallurgical, Mechanical, Electrical, CSE, and Civil Engineering. It is the only government-run institute in Odisha offering mining and mineral engineering. Facilities include hostels, sports halls, labs, and NCC. Despite moderate infrastructure, it is recognized for steady hiring in PSUs, heavy engineering, and software firms with average packages around ₹3–4 LPA and top offers near ₹16 LPA. GCE Keonjhar is considered a key government option especially for niche specializations in mining and earth sciences.
