Established in 2010 and situated in Sohra (Cherrapunji), NIT Meghalaya holds national importance status and ranks 68th in NIRF Engineering 2024. Academics began at mentor institute SVNIT Surat and later moved to its Shillong and Sohra campuses. Offering B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. in core streams, the institute supports centralized labs, a central library, and expanding infrastructure. While placement data is modest for a new NIT, faculty and academic standards are steadily improving. Admission uses JEE Main via JoSAA.
