Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad

Set up in 2016 under the mentorship of IIT Bombay, IIT Dharwad achieved Institute of National Importance status in 2016. Located in Karnataka on a sustainable 470-acre permanent campus, it began classes at a temporary WALMI campus. Today it offers B.Tech programs in CSE, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil & Infrastructure, Chemical & Biochemical, Engineering Physics and Mathematics & Computing, along with BS‑MS dual degrees, M.Tech, MS research, and Ph.D. The campus houses multiple global centers of excellence, including one for clean energy. With about 1,300 students and ~92 faculty, IIT Dharwad is rapidly expanding. It secured ₹179 crore in funded research and consultancy projects in 2025. Alumni placements show average packages around ₹12–15 LPA and up to ₹52 LPA, though placement participation hovers around 65–70%. IIT Dharwad is distinct for its green campus, interdisciplinary approach, and research-driven growth trajectory.
