Originally founded in 1926 as the Indian School of Mines, IIT Dhanbad became an IIT in 2016 and is one of the oldest technical institutions in India. Located in Jharkhand, it offers comprehensive undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across core and emerging fields such as Earth Sciences, Mining, Metallurgical, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Chemical, Environmental, and Management. The institute has a large student body (~6,600) supported by ~414 faculty members. Admission for B.Tech is through JEE Advanced. IIT Dhanbad maintains strong placement records across disciplines, particularly in engineering and core sectors. It is known for pioneering research in mining, materials, and earth sciences, and continues to evolve with modern technology programs and large-scale industry collaborations.
