Established in 1946, NIE is one of Karnataka’s oldest grant-in-aid engineering colleges, now affiliated with VTU. Set on a compact 25-acre campus, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs in disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Science. It is known for its robust academic tradition, granted autonomy and rich alumni legacy—including founding members of leading engineering ventures. NIE is ranked in the 200–250 band nationally. The campus includes multiple workshop blocks, sports complexes, libraries, and lecture theatres. While recent student reports mention placement variations—especially in CSE/ISE branches—NIE remains respected for its foundational engineering instruction, disciplined environment, and long-standing regional reputation.
