Top 10 IITs According To NIRF Rankings 2022 And How Are They Measured

Overview

NIRF make a curated ranking list of various engineering colleges and universities every year based on various parameters. In this article, we are going to discuss the top 10 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) based on their NIRF rankings

CollegeTpoint: In earlier days when there was no NIRF rankings system, we used to have rankings provided by popular magazines and news agencies. But they were never as exhaustive and comprehensive as NIRF and their reliability and credibility were always in question. 

These magazines often use non-reliable sources of information and very few data points for preparing their rankings which always leads to improper and misleading rankings.

To tackle these issues Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) come up with a solution in the year 2015 which helps students better decide the college based on the ranking of various engineering (and other streams like medical, law, architecture etc) colleges and universities.

Since its inception in the year 2015 NIRF Rankings has become a benchmark to measure various colleges and universities of India. 

Rankings are calculated based on below table:

And in this article, we are going to discuss a list of the top 10 IITs based on their NIRF Rankings for 2022.

 

1. Indian Institute of Technology Madras

 

According to NIRF, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras is the top IIT in the list with a total score of 90.04 out of 100. Also, IIT Madras is at first position from the top when compared with all the engineering colleges in India including IITs and IIITs

 

2. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

 

With a total score of 88.12 out of 100 IIT Delhi stands in second position among the top NITs

 

3. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay

 

The third position in the list is claimed by IIT Bombay with a total score of 83.96 out of 100

 

4. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur

 

IIT Kanpur stands at  fourth position with a total score of 82.56 out of 100 according to NIRF

 

5. Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

 

The fifth position has been taken up by IIT Kharagpur with a total score of 78.89 out of 100

 

6. Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

 

At number 6, we have IIT Roorkee with a total score of 76.70 out of 100

 

7. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

 

The seventh position in the list is claimed by IIT Guwahati with a total score of 72.98 out of 100

 

8. Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad

 

The eighth position has been taken up by IIT Hyderabad with a total score of 68.03 out of 100

 

9. Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi

 

Second last in the list of top 10 IITs is IIT BHU with a total score of 63.51 out of 100

 

10. Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines)

 

Last but not least we have IIT Dhanbad which is placed at tenth position according to NIRF rank
